The Vinaya in Four Parts holds an important position in the history of Chinese vinaya; later vinaya schools often took this vinaya as a fundamental basis. Its contents not only list precepts but also preserve the circumstances of vinaya formulation, procedures for handling monastic affairs, ordination and uposatha systems, making it a core resource for studying monastic norms and institutional history.
