Maṅgala Sutta
Pali and Lao; copied in 1924
Fascicle 3 of a Lao palm-leaf manuscript of the Maṅgala Sutta, preserved at Vat Pak Lueng in Chomphet, Luang Prabang. Copied in 1924, it records in Pali and Lao the Buddha’s teaching on the thirty-eight highest blessings.
The discourse relates that while the Buddha was staying at Jetavana Monastery in Sāvatthī, a deity came at night and asked what constitutes the highest blessing. Beginning with avoiding fools, associating with the wise, and honoring those worthy of honor, the Buddha expounded thirty-eight blessings leading toward security and liberation. This third fascicle is an in-situ Lao palm-leaf manuscript from Vat Pak Lueng, written in Tham Lao script. The catalog records 46 pages, including 6 blank pages; the digital set contains 24 leaf images plus front and back board images.
