Hevajra is one of the principal deities of the Anuttarayoga Tantra class in Tibetan Buddhism, closely associated with mandala visualization, stages of practice, empowerment, and esoteric ritual procedures. This item, titled "Auspicious Hevajra Assembly Wheel Nectar Spring," in upper and lower juan, is attributed to a Yuan dynasty translation by Shanan Yiluo, and was written and illustrated in gold ink in the fourth year of the Zhengtong reign of Emperor Yingzong of the Ming dynasty, with a clearly established date and precious format. Gold-ink illustrated manuscripts often carried significance both for textual transmission and devotional offering, making them suitable for research into the writing, binding, imagery, and Sino-Tibetan Buddhist exchange of Ming dynasty court or monastic esoteric Buddhist texts.
