Biographies of Sangha Treasures in the Chan Grove is an important compilation of Chan monastic biographies from the Song dynasty, traditionally attributed to the monk Huihong, with later supplementary biographies appended. It specifically records the lineages, awakenings, encounters, and conduct of eminent Chan masters from the late Tang through the Northern Song. Such texts are not only historical materials for Chan Buddhism, but also preserve large amounts of gong'an terminology, lamp-record references, and information on monastic culture, and may be cross-referenced with The Jingde Record of the Transmission of the Lamp, Continuation of the Lamp Record, and related collections of recorded sayings.
