The Heart Sutra of Prajñāpāramitā and the Diamond Prajñāpāramitā Sutra are both widely transmitted Prajñā scriptures in Chinese Buddhism. The former summarizes Prajñā teachings such as the emptiness of the five aggregates and non-attainment in extremely concise form, while the latter develops themes of non-attachment to appearances, non-abiding, giving, and Prajñā wisdom. The title of this item identifies it as an eighteenth-century Bodhi leaf painting, showing a form that combines scripture text with the Bodhi leaf image medium. The Bodhi leaf is connected with the memory of the Buddha’s enlightenment, and the writing of scriptures together with the painting of sacred images jointly constitute a medium for offering, protection, and visualization.
