Japanese Gozan editions especially reflect the process of reproduction following the eastward transmission of Song and Yuan Buddhist culture. This item is described as a reprint of a Yuan edition, a Gozan edition, and printed by Ruilong Chan Monastery, preserving the layout and circulation form of Chan koan commentary texts within the Japanese monastic publishing system. It may be collated with editions printed at Myoshin-ji and other Song and Yuan transmitted editions.
